In the Pacific Time Zone, the Moon will be full at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, January 23. With this Full Moon, the Sun in Aquarius will be in opposition (180°) to the Moon in Leo. To further clarify how this Full Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 4° of Aquarius and 4° of Leo in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with those two houses are going to be most impacted by this Full Moon’s presence.
All Full Moons require careful negotiation between two seemingly incongruent signs. With this Full Moon, we must find a balance between the signs of Leo and Aquarius. Leo is the sign of individuality, whereas Aquarius is the sign of humanity. Leo wants to show the world its uniqueness through self-expression and giving love on a one-on-one, grandiose basis. Aquarius is also about love; however, it’s more concerned with being responsible for and giving love objectively in the form of support of a cause, such as an organization, group, or non-profit agency.
Both ends of this continuum are important. This Leo Full Moon points out that when unique individuals collaborate, they can overcome great obstacles and even change the world. If we can each reclaim our own individual power, we can contribute our light to the greater whole and everyone benefits. However, it’s all about balance now. The Moon in Leo would want all the attention, but the Sun in Aquarius says we need to share the spotlight. So it’s important to remember that we each need to share our unique insights (Moon in Leo) in order to contribute to the higher good (Sun in Aquarius).
So at the time of this Full Moon in Leo, we need to look at where it is important to walk through our fears and live from our Leo-based heart and thereby contribute our gifts to the Aquarius-based greater good. Good questions to ask ourselves now are, “What are my deepest desires?”, “If I could change one thing in the world, what would that be?”, and “Who could I work with that shares my dreams?”
Venus enters Capricorn right around the time of the Full Moon, and it will remain in this sign until February 18. During the next three weeks, many of us will feel ready to get serious about our relationships and financial issues. Business partnerships often function more smoothly while Venus is in Cap. This is also a fortuitous time for finding people to support our ambitions and goals. What we value now are people who form enduring relationships with us – relationships that are based on faithfulness and responsibility. It may take a little time for us to “warm up” to others, but this is because we only want to be around those who take our feelings seriously.
Right before the Full Moon on Wednesday, January 20, the Sun leaves the heavier energy of Capricorn and enters the lighter energy of Aquarius. The next month will have a much more unpredictable energy associated with it, but it will also be more fun. We may feel an increased desire to do something “wild and crazy” and/or feel drawn to work with groups of people, especially if they share our values and ideals.
Additionally, retrograde Mercury squares (90°) Uranus on the same day (Wednesday, January 20). This aspect can leave us feeling disorganized and mentally scattered. We need to be flexible with our schedules and tolerant regarding our expectations of others due to possible communication snafus, especially given Mercury is still in retrograde. Although the constant stream of thoughts we will likely experience today could leave us feeling pretty stressed out, it can also be a very mentally exciting day. We just need to keep in mind that with Mercury in retrograde, we may have a harder time than usual expressing those new thoughts externally. But if we are able to let go of our need to be in control, we could experience amazing “coincidences” or “intuitive hits.”
On Monday, January 25, Mercury ends its first retrograde phase of 2016 and begins moving direct again. We might not experience a quick turnaround regarding problems with communication, but within a few days, things will smooth out. We do need to be very careful to monitor our thoughts because words (both spoken or unspoken) are especially powerful right now. Why? Due to this retrograde phase, Mercury will make three conjunctions (0°) with Pluto. The first was back on December 20, 2015. But the second and third will straddle the Full Moon on Friday, January 22 and Friday, January 29, respectively. This aspect urges us to become very aware of how words carry power. We need to be open to new ideas and ways of doing things, and it’s important to be honest with ourselves and others. This aspect can also provide us with valuable information or understanding. Thoughts, ideas, and communication may be more focused and even intense around these two dates, but we will likely feel ready to use our strategic thinking and observational abilities to see the truth.
Thursday, January 28, sees a conjunction (0°) between Jupiter and the North Node. This may provide us with the confidence we need to face our responsibilities and take on the challenges around us. Jupiter’s energy is optimistic and expansive. This is a time when we might actually experience something that we consider “lucky.” This aspect also will help us see even more clearly how each individual contributes to the whole in unique and powerful ways.
A sweet sextile (60°) between Venus and Neptune on Saturday, January 30, will bring comfort and soothe any ruffled feelings, but only if everyone can agree to a shared goal or ideals. We feel ready to be gentle with ourselves and others, and we may experience some interesting synchronicities within our relationships or finances.
The next day (Sunday, January 31) ushers in more support for sudden flashes of insight through a square (90°) between Mercury and Uranus. Although this aspect definitely will stimulate us to think about things in new and different ways, it is a very different kind of energy than yesterday because our ideas may not be well-received by others. Although we may feel very enthusiastic about what we are thinking about, it might be best to hold off sharing those ideas until tomorrow. This is because the new information that surfaces could upset the status quo.
Finally, on Wednesday, February 3, a series of three sextiles provide us with great opportunities. However, as is true with all sextiles, we have to consciously take advantage of the helpful energy provided by the sextile because it’s just as easy to ignore it.
- A sextile (60°) between Mars and Pluto can provide support for focusing on our goals and powering through projects that we have been putting off. We are ready to go after what we want, but the sextile’s energy means that we are eager to find ways to do so that don’t require stepping on the toes of others on our way to the finish line.
- Another sextile (60°) between the Sun and Saturn can help us make headway on our tasks. Progress may be slow, but it will be steady. We are willing to work hard to achieve our goals, and we may feel usually stable, centered, and mature.
- Finally, a sextile (60°) between Mercury and Chiron provides us with a wonderful opportunity for opening up lines of communication with others. We are more sensitive than usual and more willing to listen. Words can be used to heal; both words spoken to us and those spoken by us.
Overall, this Full Moon in Leo is a wake-up call for humanity. Back in the 20th Century, we became increasingly aware that we are all interacting with each other on an individual, a familial, and a societal basis. Now, as we move deeper into the 21st Century, we are being challenged to think beyond conventional boarder and become aware that were are all valuable parts of the energy that even transcends planets, galaxies, and universes. This is a huge in consciousness! So how do we each play a role in this transformation of humanity’s awareness? By recognizing that each one of us came to the Earth at this time with a gift (perhaps more than one) that will make a difference. Our goal must be to find ways to express that gift because the power of group is magnified by what we each have to contribute. As they say in Gestalt theory, “The whole is greater than the sum of its part,” but a stronger whole can only created when each part steps us and does their part.
