NEW MOON IN LEO – Humility is concerned with what is right (August 14, 2015)

Astrology-New-Moon-Full-MoonIn the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 7:53 a.m. on Friday, August 14. This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 22° of Leo. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 22° of Leo in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.

A New Moon brings opportunities to set new intentions and have a fresh start in the sign in which it occurs. With this New Moon, “all things Leo” will be our focus. Key words for Leo include creativity, love, caring, romance, leadership, pride, courage, and self-confidence. Leo is about whatever we create in our lives, such as art, music, written material, and even our children and love affairs. Its focus is on expressing our “unique spark” or “Divine essence” in the world, because we were each born to share our gifts with the world. We need to be authentic and not try to be someone else.

Leo the Lion is a leader, and this leadership may be as big as an organization or country, or it might be as personal as becoming a creator of our individual reality. Because Leo is so focused on creativity, we are being asked to find ways to courageously express our set of unique talents. A good question to ask ourselves is, “What do I do that makes my heart sing?” The answer to this question helps us identify our gifts because what we love doing is always an expression of our true selves. But we need to remember that whatever we create needs to come from a place of unconditional love (higher expression of Leo) and not from a place of pride or self-importance (lower expression of Leo).

This New Moon is conjunct (0°) Venus. Venus is currently moving through Leo in retrograde, so we are being asked to reevaluate whether we are finding avenues to express our creative gifts and to question how much time we spend doing what we enjoy. We may also need to review our finances to make sure they are aligned with our long-term goals and ask ourselves if we are getting enough rest and relaxation. This may require identifying blocks to being open to new relationships, dealing with financial issues, or taking creative risks. Those blocks may also involve revisiting unfinished creative projects. Identifying our blocks is never pleasant, but it is a necessary prerequisite. We need to finish up old emotional entanglements (to things or people) so we can move into the future with a heart not bound by cords from the past. (NOTE: If you feel like these issues have already been present for several weeks, that’s because Venus will be in Leo almost four times longer than usual due to her retrograde phase in Leo this year.)

Additionally, Uranus in energetic Aries is trining (120°) both the New Moon and retrograde Venus. Luckily, this positive alignment of the planet of change (Uranus) will support us in facing those blocks. The actions that we take may be different than our usual approach, and our choices may even be seen by others as rebellious. And given Venus is in retrograde, it may be that we are looking to the past for answers, but Uranus may support us in doing this exploration in different ways.

Mercury is trining (120°) Pluto on Saturday, August 15. Gifts from this aspect are psychological understanding, focused attention, and increased patience. Given this aspect is occurring during the time of the New Moon in Leo and when Venus is moving in retrograde through Leo, this powerful mental energy may provide us with a day when we have the courage to dialogue (in person or in written form) with someone from our past in order to resolve old issues that need resolution. This could lead to saving a relationship that is worth saving, or it may help you part amicably if the relationship has reached the end of the line. Regardless of the outcome, a new sense of clarity is possible now, if we are courageous enough to take action.

On Wednesday, August 19, a trine (120°) between Venus and Neptune may feel like the “break” in the emotional energy that you’ve been waiting for within a relationship. This very positive energy will either allow you to find new ways to allow more freedom to flow in your relationships or you will be able to part as friends. Alternatively, you may find that new relationships are forged today, and these could be romantic, friendship, and/or business. And given that Venus is in retrograde, it may be that this relationship is with someone we already know but now see in a different light. This can be a magical time, and many of us will feel compassionate, social, and open to new experiences.

Be sure to make the most of the wonderful energy of yesterday, because the tides could turn the next day (Thursday, August 20) when Mercury is in opposition (180°) to the asteroid Chiron. Misunderstandings are possible due to people taking things too personally. We may feel like what we say isn’t being accurately perceived, which may be due to either our lack of clarity or our words being misunderstood. Due to opposing viewpoints, we may have a difficult time making decisions today. It’s best to take this day as lightly as possible and put off any serious conversations and/or decisions for a least a day or two.

If there is a current need for any “course correction” in our lives, it’s likely to come on Friday, August 21, when the Sun squares (90°) Saturn. We actually could be feeling the impact of this challenging aspect for a few days before and after the actual event. We may feel blocked in our efforts, and it’s easy to feel discouraged. Everyone is being asked to take responsibility for their actions and reactions, and a heavy dose of realism may feel forced upon us. However, this could also be a time when some of us will begin to see that we really do have the inner resources we need to move forward. And this awareness may provide increased confidence in our ability to take care of ourselves and create our own foundations.

On Sunday, August 23, the Sun will move out of Leo and into Virgo. When the Sun is in Virgo, our focus shifts from the forest to the trees. The energy of Virgo can help us analyze situations and discern what is “right” and “wrong” for us. But it can also be unduly critical if left unchecked. Many of us will feel an increased need to take care of practical concerns, and it will be easier to tend to the details of everyday life during the next four weeks. The Sun in Virgo may not be as much fun as the Sun in Leo, but this new Virgo energy will help us get organized, handle needed details, and focus on improvements of all kinds (e.g., communication, self-improvement).

Wednesday, August 26, sees two aspects working together beautifully. A sweet sextile (60°) between Mercury and Saturn will provide a dose of practicality. This will help us think things through carefully and make realistic decisions that could eventually lead to wonderful manifestations and achievements. Additionally, a conjunction (0°) between the Sun and Jupiter will provide optimism, generosity, and self-confidence. Each year, when the Sun and Jupiter make this connection, it’s a time when we have a stronger sense of who we really are, what we want, and how we can go about getting our heart’s desires. This positive blending of pragmatism and self-confidence can help us to be productive and even complete very difficult tasks. With the Sun in work-oriented Virgo, we should do our best to use this energy to get something accomplished that has a practical value to it. Overall, this energy may support us in realizing a long-term goal or we may receive recognition for our hard work.

The next day (Thursday, August 27), Mercury leaves Virgo and enters the sign of Libra. Due to an upcoming Mercury retrograde phase (September 17-October 8), Mercury will extend its usual 3-week stay in Libra to 9 weeks (until November 3). During this time, our mental focus will be on our relationships, diplomacy, and fairness. Mercury in Libra can make it difficult to make decisions because we can easily see all sides of a situation. We also need to be careful that we don’t abdicate our needs for the sake of peace. Focus on creating connections between equals and not just creating the illusion of equality.

Overall, this New Moon in Leo is providing us with a time when we can more clearly see where we are ready for more love, joy, and creativity in our lives. We need to trust our inner knowing regarding which way is the right way for us. To do this, we need to be our own leader as we create the world in which we want to live. With all this Leo energy and Virgo energy (including Jupiter just entering Virgo on Wednesday, August 12), it will be important for all of us to take actions based on unconditional love (higher expression of Leo) and service (Virgo) rather than actions that serve only the self (lower expression of Leo). And given all the energy focused on relationships during this time, remember that, “Pride is concerned with who is right. Humility is concerned with what is right.” (Ezra T. Benso)
