NEW MOON IN SAGITTARIUS – A revolutionary shift in our lives is possible (November 29, 2016)

Astrology-New-Moon-Full-MoonIn the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 4:18 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29.  This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 8° of Sagittarius.  To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 8° of Sagittarius in your birth/natal chart.  The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.

New Moons open doors to new possibilities, especially in the areas associated with the sign that is involved.  This time, the focus is on Sagittarius, which is a mutable fire sign.  The element of fire provides energy and forward motion, but the mutable modality associated with Sag means that any motion could be unpredictable.  However, as long as we can adapt to the changeable nature of the energy, it can actually be a fun, exciting time.  The only caution with a New Moon in Sag is to make sure we aren’t being too opinionated.  This can include being a wee bit too “honest” with others, which can result in unnecessarily hurt feelings.

The symbol for Sagittarius is a centaur pointing its arrow to the sky.  Sag is a sign associated with enthusiasm, adventure, and exploration . . . with seeing how far that arrow can go and wondering where it will land.  With a Sag New Moon, we are often being asked to see the big picture and even look at things in a different way.  As Wayne Dyer is often quoted, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”  That could be the motto for Sag.  Around the time of the New Moon, we may begin to see old problems in new ways and even question some of our most basic and fundamental beliefs.

The Sun and Moon are closely squaring (90°) Neptune and the South Node in Pisces (which means they are also squaring the North Node in Virgo) during this New Moon.  This likely means that individually and collectively, we are at an important crossroads.  With the Sun and Moon in values-focused, philosophical Sag and with Neptune and the sign of Pisces involved in the squares, this is a clear indication that we all need to make needed changes (square) in our emotional or spiritual world (Neptune & Pisces) so that our lives better reflect our personal values (Sag).  This may require a “leap of faith” as we move away from the old, familiar ways of doing things (South Node) and move toward our spiritual destiny and growth (North Node).

This Sagittarius New Moon is being powerfully influenced by an astrological configuration called a t-square, which is when at least 2 planets oppose (180°) each other and both of these planets square (90°) another planet(s).  This time, the opposing planets are Jupiter and Uranus, which are both squaring Venus and Pluto, which are conjunct (0°) each other in Capricorn.  This all forms a right triangle in the sky.  T-squares demand our attention, and it’s usually the planet(s) being squared that shows us where changes are needed that will provide a better balance between the two opposing planets.  Venus and Pluto in Capricorn are telling us to take our desires and power seriously.  Combine that with the square involving Uranus, and we are being supported in clarifying what matters most to us and what we need to do differently in order to reach our goals and desires.  This may require looking at our relationships and/or finances to see if adjustments are needed.  However, given the square between the Sun and Neptune, clarity may actually come if we take a break from “reality.”  So around the time of the New Moon, it might be beneficial for many of us to take our minds off our problems for short periods of time by getting out in nature, engaging in creative activities, or meditating.  Answers can also be found by looking at the sign that is in opposition (180°) to the two planets being squared (i.e., Venus & Pluto). In this case, the sign is Cancer.  This shows us that we may find solutions to our problems by getting in touch with our needs and feelings, exploring the past for clues to a present issue, and making sure that our foundational “home” is secure before venturing out into new territory.

On Wednesday, November 30, the Sun will exactly square (90°) Neptune, and this will occur at the same degree as our last Solar Eclipse, which is significant.  Trying to figure something out logically will be challenging today.  But if we can use our intuition, we may gain important insights related to how we can best make the changes that were identified during the New Moon.  It may be helpful to look back to the time of the Solar Eclipse (September 1) and ask, “How has my life changed over the last three months, and what changes are still needed?”

The next day (Thursday, December 1), Chiron ends its retrograde period and begins moving direct again.  If we have done the inner healing work that was needed while Chiron was in retrograde, this change in direction could mark a period of time that represents the beginning of a revolutionary shift in our lives.  We are ready to move forward unimpeded by some past issue(s).  If we didn’t quite finish that inner work, the direct motion of Chiron may increase our ability to clearly see what still needs to be healed and how to heal it.

The same day, (Thursday, December 1), Mars trines (120°) Jupiter, which will bring wonderful energy into our lives and can support us in embarking on the shift described above.  We may feel more decisive than usual, and we have the energy and power to work toward our goals.  Optimism and enthusiasm will help us see what is possible, and we might even be ready to take on a new goal or challenge.  Mars and Jupiter are both in social-minded air signs (Aquarius & Libra, respectively), so we may feel inclined to seek out like-minded others who can collaborate on a common goal that improves the quality of life for society.  And that goal will best be accomplished by incorporating the concepts of both individual uniqueness and collective oneness.

On Friday, December 2, Mercury leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn.  Looking ahead, Mercury will begin its final retrograde period of 2016 on Thursday, December 15, which means Mercury will be under the influence of Capricorn for a longer period of time than usual.  (More on Mercury in retrograde in the next Moon Update.)  While in Cap, Mercury supports us in thinking methodically and practically.  We usually are able to focus and concentrate very effectively during this time.  We will likely feel a need to be logical, orderly, and organized, particularly in our thinking and communication; but this need for order could spill over into other areas of our lives.  We just need to be a little careful that we don’t come off as too rigid in our thinking.  We need to always remember that others have a right to their opinions and views, even if those ideas don’t match our own.

Saturday, December 3, brings a supportive sextile (60°) between Mars and Saturn.  This is a gift, especially on a weekend before so many holidays.  If we take advantage of it, we will have the energy we need to take responsible, directed, purposeful action.  And once again, we may feel motivated to get organized.  If we consciously use the energy of this sextile, then we are likely to see results from our efforts.

The next major astrological aspect doesn’t occur until Tuesday, December 6, when Mars will form another helpful sextile (60°), this time to Uranus.  Sextiles are normally a subtle energy, but both Mars and Uranus are not subtle planets!  This sextile will likely leave us feeling inspired to try something new.  However, always remember that whenever Uranus is involved, unexpected events could leave us feeling a bit confused.  But given the positive energy of the sextile, any changes in plans will likely be easily accommodated and could lead to something exciting and new.

The next day (Wednesday, December 7), Venus moves out of the heavier energy of Capricorn and into the lighter energy of Aquarius, where it will remain until January 3.  Venus in Aquarius provides us with a period of relative objectivity in our relationships (and with our finances), but this placement also demands that we have the freedom to be ourselves and make our own decisions based on our personal desires and values.  We need our independence, and we may feel inclined to be uncharacteristically unconventional.  We also feel dedicated to making sure everyone is treated fairly and humanely.

Friday, December 9, brings another sweet sextile (60°), this time between the Sun and Jupiter.  Again, sextiles are easy to ignore due to their subtle nature, but the Sun and Jupiter are very powerful planets.  This sextile brings optimism and hopefulness.  We may feel more sociable, tolerant, and generous than usual.  It’s likely our self-confidence is increasing, and we may even receive some form of recognition.

Overall, the time period of this New Moon in Sagittarius is a nice time to contemplate and perhaps even make some major changes in our lives.  As is true of Sag, it is important to look beyond the present and into the future.  We also need to be sure to take a step back and see the forest and not the individual trees.  Due to the influence of the powerful t-square, we are being shown that we must take full responsibility for how we use our power in the world, which includes accepting the consequences of our actions.  Important insights may be reached by making sure we have some alone-time, letting go of the logical brain, using our intuition, getting organized, and make sure our foundational “home” is solid and secure.  Most of us have gone through immense changes in the last few years, and a new way of being is being birthed on an individual and collective level.  This is a time when those who understand that oneness and unity are our future (Sag) need to support each other as we hold firm in the Light.  And we always have to remember that, “You are free to choose, but you are not free from the consequences of your choice” (Ezra Taft Benson).
