This month’s New Moon finds both the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0º) at 13º of Taurus. To further clarify how this New Moon in Taurus will impact you on a personal level, locate 13º of Taurus in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most affected by this New Moon’s presence. Specifically, this will tell you where in your life you are ready to bring new ideas into concrete form and where a practical and sustained approach will be required to do it.
Last month the New Moon was in Aries, and this month it is in Taurus. Aries initiates; Taurus substantiates. Aries is the pioneer; Taurus is the settler. Taurus leads us to discover and embody what is most necessary and valuable to us – not what others think we should have or do but what is valuable to us personally. Taurus asks us to base our lives on whatever opens our hearts and satisfies our soul. It’s a good time to ask yourself, “What brings me joy?” and “What makes me happy to be alive?”
When the Moon is New in Taurus, we are all reminded to celebrate the joys of being in a body, on the Earth, and with each other. This particular New Moon is a much-needed calm amidst the storm because five planets are still in “must-take-action-now” Aries (i.e., Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus). Taurus New Moons are times when we see values grow clearer. We also find that the mental, emotional, and physical tools that we need are available to help us turn the wild Aries ideas into viable concepts. A potent trine (120º) between Pluto and the New Moon deepens perceptions and reveals ways to turn losses into gains or find value in underappreciated things and abilities.
The planets located in Aries give the Taurus Moon the energy for breaking free from the past and discovering new ways to solve old problems. Aries energy needs to move forward and break new ground. At the time of this New Moon, Venus (the ruler of Taurus) is conjunct (0º) Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter in Aries. This can spark originality, action, and optimism. We may be called to release any outdated attitudes toward money and material resources. Behaviors or practices that were tolerable in the past may now feel totally unacceptable. Big breakthroughs are possible, but so are big breakdowns. Due to the presence of Uranus, the more you resist inevitable changes that are needed, the more difficult the changes will be. There is only one way out of your current situation, and that is to move forward. You can’t go back now!
This powerful alignment of planets in action-oriented, impulsive Aries, plus the additional presence of Uranus in Aries (which adds the energy of the unexpected to the mix), and we have an astrological influence that could result in rash actions (or words) or in being overly self-focused. Although assertive action may be called for now, that action (and those words) must be tempered with patience. Saturn is in Libra right now, which means that we are also being asked to be responsible within our relationships and to focus on consideration and cooperation.
Additionally, Venus in Aries is in opposition (180º) to Saturn and Mercury. We will find that we need to speak frankly but also be willing to consider other points of view. We have to find a balance between the desires of others and our own. Personal relationships that have become stifling and unbalanced may be pressured to change, so that each person can experience greater freedom and authenticity.
Overall, this New Moon in Taurus is a time when we are being asked to let go of what has become burdensome rather than pleasurable. The energy of Taurus is simple; many of us will find that the pace of life slows down a bit so we can smell the roses. The Aries energy can help us from becoming lazy, which can be the shadow side of Taurus; however, we will all likely feel the need to pause, take a deep breath (or two . . . or even three), and evaluate what is truly important in our lives.
There is a common exercise in the psychological field that is used to help people identify what is truly important to them. Ask yourself how you spend your time if you were told you only had one more year to live. What would you do? Who would you choose to be with? What were your childhood dreams? What makes you feel rich? Take time now to determine your bottom line(s). And because Taurus is all about nature, it may help to go into nature and connect with Mother Earth. And was so well stated by John Muir, “Keep close to Nature’s heart . . . break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.”
REMINDER: New Moons & Full Moons often influence us for the 3 days before and 3 days after the actual event.
