This month’s New Moon finds both the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 6° of Virgo. To further clarify how this New Moon in Leo will impact you on a personal level, locate 6° of Virgo in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be the most affected by this New Moon’s presence.
This New Moon is a very powerful New Moon! The New Moon in Virgo moves our attention away from the ego (Leo) to earthly pragmatism and efficiency (Virgo). Whereas the Full Moon in Leo two weeks ago asked us to follow both our head and our soul, this New Moon in Virgo asks us to use our head and our hands. Virgo is the sign most concerned with analysis, efficiency, precision, and service. Greater attention to detail is likely. The key to effectively using the energy of Virgo is to focus on making incremental gains rather than trying to do it all at once.
At the time of the New Moon, Venus is conjunct (0°) the Sun and Moon, which highlights the importance of a healthy sense of self-worth. If we have an adequate amount of self-esteem, then we don’t feel the need to put down others or ourselves, nor do we feel the need to puff ourselves up with a lot of possessions. This is an important lesson at this time for only those with healthy self-esteem can truly see how they can serve others (Virgo) in healthy ways.
Also at the time of this New Moon, Chiron in Pisces is in opposition (180°) to the Sun, Moon, and Venus. This reminds us of the power of compassion . . . toward self and others. The more tolerant and understanding we are with ourselves, the more forgiving and tolerant we can be with others.
But that’s not all! This New Moon is also part of a grand trine in Earth signs, with the Sun, Moon, and Venus in Virgo at one corner of the triangle, Pluto in Capricorn in the 2nd corner, and Jupiter in Taurus in the 3rd corner. This alignment of five planets supports us in pinpointing what no longer works and making fundamental changes. And because grand trines involve an easy flow of energy, very little effort may be needed to make sweeping changes in our lives! If utilized effectively, this grand trine offers great support for re-visioning, re-designing, and releasing, especially in matters pertaining to finances, health and material possessions. It is asking us to evaluate (a) whether we have what we really want and (b) whether we want what we already have. A trine between the Sun and Pluto often means that we have both the confidence (Sun) and the competence (Pluto) to make life seem more manageable. Anything that does need to be stripped away (Pluto) will be supported by practicality and strategic awareness (Jupiter in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn) and by beauty and love (Venus).
On Friday, August 26, many of us will be letting out a sigh of relief as Mercury stops its backward motion and begins moving direct once again. During this retrograde period (August 2-26), we may have experienced frustrations and setbacks; do your best to remember that they were designed to grant you the time you needed to revamp, revise, and re-envision. If we’ve made the necessary repairs and reorientations, developments can occur quickly now. We should see communication of all sorts getting back on track, and connections may be made more easily now. Due to Mercury’s aspects with both Uranus and Pluto, you may find yourself being drawn to investigate and then apply some unconventional approaches to solving problems.
On Tuesday, August 30, Jupiter begins its annual 4-month retrograde period. Traditionally, this backward motion by the planet associated with expansion is often associated with curbing excess spending. Although that can be helpful, it is probably more productive to think of this as a time when we are being asked to reassess our resources so we can uncover underused assets and reveal ways to reduce expenses. Additionally, this may begin a period when we all begin to re-evaluate issues of ethics, security, and priorities. We are being encouraged to release old beliefs that are holding us back from moving forward in important areas of our life. Supporting this re-evaluation is the Sun’s trine (120°) to Jupiter on Friday, September 2, which will help us see how far we’ve come and shed light on where we need to go next.
Overall, this New Moon in Virgo encourages us to simplify our life and get back to basics. The presence of the grand trine in Earth provides excellent support for transforming material failures into successes, initiating a new enterprise, or perhaps making a career move. Are you living your life in accordance with your core values? Are you in service or servitude? Your time, energy, and talents are needed at this point in history. This New Moon reminds us all that “God does not ask your ability, nor your inability. [God] only asks your availability” (Mary Kay Ash).
