This Full Moon on Tuesday, July 3 finds the Sun in Cancer in opposition (180°) to the Moon in Capricorn. To further clarify how this Full Moon in Capricorn will impact you on a personal level, locate 13° of Cancer and 13° of Capricorn in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with those two houses are going to be most affected by this Full Moon’s presence.
All Full Moons require that we find balance between two seemingly opposite aspects of ourselves and our lives. This Full Moon has Cancer opposing (180°) Capricorn. Cancer is about everything private . . . our family, our home-base, and our emotional needs and vulnerabilities. Capricorn is about everything public . . . our leadership capabilities, our responsibilities, and our need for public recognition and acknowledgement. As with all Full Moons, our goal is to find a way to meet both needs during this time. Neither end of this continuum is more or less important than the other. Both require our attention.
As usual, there are several astrological events that are impacting this Full Moon:
- As explained in the last New Moon Update, Sunday, June 24, saw the first of seven exact squares (90°) between the planet of change (Uranus) and the planet of transformation (Pluto). The importance of this aspect cannot be ignored; and given it will happen six more times between now and 2015, we will have ample opportunity to study and experience its effects. Uranus moves us toward freedom, innovation, and reform. Pluto illuminates what has been hidden or denied, forcing us to face our shadow sides and own our power. Whenever these two powerhouses form an aspect, it always coincides with accelerated social and technological developments. This aspect is a square (90°), and squares mark a major turning point when we often feel compelled to take action. And whenever Uranus is involved, it’s a “change or be changed” situation; therefore, the key is not to resist change or cling to old ways but to find ways to flow with the waves of change as they come.
- On Friday, June 29, the Sun in Cancer opposes (180°) Pluto and squares Uranus. This forms what is called a T-Square configuration, which is typically a stressful configuration. For several days before and after this event, we may find ourselves struggling with power issues. Resentment is possible, and we may even feel like rebelling. However, this power-packed configuration may also help us to explore and discover our own leadership abilities. We may be required to look into Plutonian depths (i.e., our shadow side) in order to discover what is holding us back from taking control and shining in our lives. Although you may feel like playing it safe, this will not lead to happiness right now. Happiness comes from breaking out of old patterns. And once again, given that Uranus is involved, the trick is to not resist change but to find ways to adapt, adjust, and even welcome change.
- On the same day as the full Moon (Tuesday, July 3), Mars moves out of Virgo and into Libra. After spending eight months in analytical, perfectionistic Virgo, the move into peace-loving Libra will come as a breath of fresh air within relationships of all kinds. All the readjusting, refining, and preparation during the eight months in Virgo have prepared Mars to step onto a new stage. Initiating contact with others, fighting for justice, and going public with projects are all possibilities now. Luckily, Venus began to move direct again on Wednesday, June 27. Mars and Venus will support each other’s efforts to get our important relationships back on track by actively seeking harmony. Just keep in mind that the indecisiveness of Libra can cause decisive Mars to be feel frustrated at times. Patience and looking for ways to actively seek compromise and balance are called for now.
- On Monday, June 25, Mercury moved into outspoken Leo, where it will support us in speaking out and sharing bold ideas. However, it’s worth mentioning that two other upcoming events will impact Mercury. Any bright ideas spurred by Mercury in Leo may need to be re-examined when Uranus (the higher octave of Mercury) begins its next 5-month retrograde period on Thursday, July 12. Then on Saturday, July 14, Mercury changes direction and begins its next retrograde period, which will last until Tuesday, August 7. This will prompt many of us to re-evaluate new ideas and look inward for what keeps us from our freedom, including our adherence to outdated personal, familial, and societal rules and norms. We are being given the support we need to discern where we are living from ego rather than from essence. With both Uranus and Mercury turning retrograde within a day of each other, this emphasizes the call to be creative and courageous.
Overall, this Full Moon and the other planets impacting this period of time emphasize the importance of flowing with change, being willing to let go of whatever is no longer serving us, owning our power, and using our power wisely. This is a good time to look at what is demanding change in your life right now. Where are you resisting change? Where could you make a difference? Everyone has an important role to play. What is yours? And remember, “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage” (Anaïs Nin)
REMINDER: New Moons and Full Moons often influence us for the 3 days before and 3 days after the actual event.
