This Full Moon finds the Sun in Taurus in opposition (180º) to the Moon in Scorpio. If you have your Natal/Birth chart, then locate 26º13’ of Taurus and 26º13’of Scorpio. The issues associated with the houses involved will provide you with insights into how this Full Moon will impact you personally.
All Full Moons illuminate the seeds that were planted at the time of the last New Moon (see blog NEW MOON IN TAURUS – A time to pause and identify what is truly important to you – May 2-3, 2011). The brilliance of the Full Moon brings to light what we really want and what we need to change in order to have it. It asks us “What are your true desires?” (Taurus) and “What are your fears and illusions?” (Scorpio).
Full Moons always require a balanced focus between the two signs involved. With this Full Moon, we are being asked to find a balance between valuing what we have and weeding out anything that is no longer needed. Taurus is about recognizing the beauty inherent in simply being alive. It’s about enjoying all of the senses – sights, sound, smells, tastes, touches. Scorpio is about exploring the depths of existence. The things that go beyond the physical experience – spirituality, emotions, and the sharing or giving to others that brings a sense of profound fulfillment. This Full Moon illuminates where we may need to make a profound shift in our lives so that there is more balance between these two arenas.
Both Taurus and Scorpio deal with money, but in two very different ways. Taurus is about personal resources; i.e., what we earn and what we own based on our individual values. Scorpio is about shared resources; what we share with others and what we value inside our partnerships. Again, there needs to be a balance in order for us to grow and thrive.
Around the time of this Full Moon three planets move out of fiery Aries and into earthy Taurus.
- On Friday, May 11, the sign of Taurus welcomes Mars. The excitement and innovation that was present when Mars was in Aries now has the potential to be transformed into stable systems of operation. A good phrase depicting Mars in Taurus would be “slow and steady wins the race.” We just need to make sure that we don’t dig in our heels when challenges are encountered because Taurus has a tendency to resist change, even when it’s necessary. But this is also a great time to discover fresh forms of joy and income.
- On Sunday, May 15, Venus enters her home sign of Taurus; and an hour later, Mercury joins her. You may notice a significant increase in your desire for comfort and ease in your life. It is important now to indulge your sense in physical delights (e.g., food, music, the arts). This will help remind you how sweet life can truly be.
On Monday, May 16, there is also a beautiful, free-flowing trine (120º) between Neptune in Pisces and Venus and Mercury in Taurus. This can add a touch of the divine or the spiritual to everyday life. Conversations are likely to be enriched with kindness, and we are more able than usual to find magic in the ordinary moments.
However, with so many planets in Taurus (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars), it’s important that the shadow side or lower expression of this earthly sign is recognized and avoided. Taurus energy can get “stuck in the mud” if we allow ourselves to grow too content or greedy. Luckily, the energy of the powerful Full Moon in Scorpio on Tuesday, May 17, will shed light on any areas needing our attention so we don’t become too greedy or selfish. What is hidden will be revealed – whether it’s financial fears or psychological blind spots. Whatever is illuminated at this time is coming up to be healed so you can move forward in new directions.
By the way, the Scorpio Full Moon is called the Buddha Full Moon. It is the Moon under which he was born, became illuminated, and died. It is traditionally considered the Full Moon when we are all asked to increase our awareness of the balance between body and spirit . . . between being and non-being.
Over the course of Friday and Saturday May 20-21, three planets (i.e., Mercury, Venus, Mars) will all trine (120º) Pluto. The easy flowing energy of this trine means that with just a little effort, much can happen and changes can occur more easily. You may be able to transform a loss into a gain. You may feel like you have more energy and power than usual. Solutions to stubborn problems may become clear. The only caution right now is to think before you speak because Pluto can sharpen our perceptions so we see things very clearly, but we need to be sure to express those perceptions to others with compassion.
Other aspects around this time also urge us to make a change in our thinking and attitudes. But there is also a spiritual atmosphere right now. For example, on Sunday, May 22, the Sun will be square (90º) to Neptune, which will make it easier to trust our intuition and see the next step. It increases our connection to the divine and encourages compassion and self-forgiveness.
Overall, this Full Moon in Scorpio provides us with the light we need to clarify our choices. Are we adjusting to new circumstances (Scorpio) or remaining controlled by old forces (Taurus). Although the presence of so many planets in Taurus might entice us to seek out comfort at all costs, the presence of Scorpio Moon will stir hidden desires and even hidden fears. Taurus is there to remind us of the beauty in the present, while Scorpio reminds us to treasure them because all things end so there can be new beginnings. Together, they help us let go of what is no longer useful and may be obstructing our progress toward fulfillment. Use the power of this Full Moon to see where your heart lies. And remember, “The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature” (Joseph Campbell).
REMINDER: New Moons & Full Moons often influence us for the 3 days before and 3 days after the actual event.
