FULL MOON IN VIRGO – Time to clean up some old stuff so we can become pioneers of a new path (February 19, 2019)

Astrology-New-Moon-Full-MoonIn the Pacific Time Zone, the Moon will be full at 7:53 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19.  With this Full Moon, the Sun in Pisces will be in opposition (180°) to the Moon in Virgo.  To further clarify how this Full Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 1° of Pisces and 1° of Virgo in your birth/natal chart.  The issues associated with those two houses are going to be most impacted by this Full Moon’s presence.

All Full Moons ask us to explore whether it is possible for us to attain a better balance between the two signs involved.  Given this Full Moon is also a SuperMoon (i.e., the Moon will be closer to the Earth than usual) and also occurs within the first degree of each signs (0°42’), this is another in a series of powerful lunar events.

A light-hearted way to think of this Virgo Full Moon is to ask ourselves whether there are areas of our lives where we are either being too picky (Virgo) or being too wishy-washy (Pisces).  Either of these options is possible, although usually in different issues of our lives.  Our goal is to find a balance between these two extremes in all areas of our lives.  Some adjustments are likely needed, and now is the time to make them.

However, other astrological events that impact the entire month are influencing us strongly during this Full Moon.

  • As of Sunday, February 3, Venus moved into Capricorn, where it will remain until the beginning of March (see description later in this Moon Update). But during February, Venus is also conjunct (0°) both Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, which means they are working together as a unit or team.  Therefore, Venus in Capricorn means we need to take a serious (Saturn) in depth (Pluto) look at either our responsibilities within our relationship or with our finances . . . or both.  This is a practical, down-to-earth energy that encourages us to engage in realistic problem-solving.  It’s time to get down to work and find practical solutions to any challenges in these areas.
  • Additionally, on Monday, February 11, Mercury moved into Pisces. Mercury usually only remains in a sign for about 3 weeks, but this time it will be in Pisces for about 2 months due to going retrograde March 5-27.  Mercury isn’t very comfortable in watery Pisces.  Our thoughts become very intuitive, emotional, and even ungrounded.  During February, Mercury will square (90°) Jupiter and then be conjunct (0°) Uranus.  We may experience “information overload,” and we all need to be careful not to talk too much, especially if we are trying to convince someone of our point-of-view.  Luckily, the conjunction with Uranus means that we will be able to easily understand things from an intellectual perspective, which will hopefully help counter the dreamy qualities of Mercury in Pisces.  Our intuition may be heightened, but we do need to be careful not to get overstimulated or act impulsively.

But let’s compare these two concurrent planetary placements: (a) Venus in Cap represents being realistic and (b) Mercury in Pisces brings idealism.  Although they seem diametrically opposed, there are ways to consciously work with these two energies.  We need to use the creative and intuitive energy of Mercury in Pisces to find solutions to practical problems (Venus in Cap).  It might be easy to get lost in the floaty energy of Mercury in Pisces, but with so much Capricorn energy (i.e., Venus, Saturn, Pluto), we are being supported in finding a way to take practical steps toward our goals.

This is further supported by a conjunct (0°) between Mars and Uranus.  Many of us have been saying, “The energy right now is crazy!”  This conjunction is very likely the cause of this cray-cray energy.  Mars is energy and Uranus is change.  When these two powerhouses are moving together as a unit (i.e., a conjunction), this means we will experience a lot of unexpected, unpredictable, and even volatile energy.  We may even be feeling impatient, like a horse in the starting gate at a race track.  We do need to do something to vent this energy, and physical exercise is recommended.  But the best use of this energy would be to use the energy to creatively (Pisces) and courageously (Mars) move forward into those changes (Uranus), which will need to be practical and down-to-earth (Virgo).

Luckily, during the Virgo Full Moon, the conjunction between Mars and Uranus described above will be in a sextile (60°) to the Sun and a trine (120°) to the Moon.  These supportive aspects add a lot of energy to the Full Moon, but they will help us access and use this creative energy.  However, because Uranus is in the last, critical degree (29°) of Aries, unless we can use the energy constructively, there is the potential for explosions.  This is Uranus’s last-ditch effort to wrap up changes that require Aries’s energy and courage.  Many of us will feel like issues from the past are suddenly resurfacing.  We are being given another opportunity to finally complete something.  It’s time to clear out the old to clear the path for new adventures once Uranus moves into Taurus on Wednesday, March 6, which happens to be the same day as the Pisces New Moon.  We can choose to ignore whatever needs to be cleaned up, but be forewarned:  If we don’t heed Uranus in Aries advice, we could see fireworks.  It’s likely that a decision is overdue; and if we don’t make the decision, the “fairies of the Universe” will make the decision for us.  That’s the “Uranian way” . . . change or be changed.

And just an additional word of warning:  The conjunction (0°) described above between Mars and Uranus is also squaring (90°) Jupiter in Sagittarius.  This could cause us to be overly optimistic, underestimate how much time things will take, and/or overestimate our abilities when it comes to these changes.  Remember, we have a lot of Capricorn energy right now, which demands that we be realistic and practical.  Part of the changes that need to be made may involve “facing reality” regarding our capabilities and our limitations.  For example, we may need to face the fact that we may not have time to do everything we want to do, and we will need to make some hard choices regarding our priorities.  At this time, we each need to carefully evaluate what is possible, manageable, and realistic.  We should focus on what can be done and cut out anything that would drain our energy.  We also need to be careful not to worry over those things that we cannot control.

The day before the Virgo Full Moon (Monday, February 18), Chiron moves into Aries after a brief return to Pisces.  After nine years in Pisces, Chiron now takes up long-term residency in Aries (i.e., for the next eight years, until 2027).  While in Pisces, we were asked to face our inner victim and move through our emotional pain.  But now that Chiron is in Aries, we can no longer float in a Piscean fog of emotions, spiritual trust, and intuition when it comes to healing ourselves.  It’s time to face our fears, courageously take control, and actively seek solutions.  We need to take a confident role in our own healing process, and this may include taking actions that others aren’t expecting from us as we address those areas of our lives where we feel vulnerable or weak.  We need to become our own champion, stop waiting for the proverbial “knight in shining armor,” and get down to work in healing ourselves.

On Friday, March 1, Venus will leave Capricorn and move into the lighter energy of Aquarius, where it will remain until March 27.  Like Cap’s energy, Aquarius is also uber-responsible.  However, the mental detachment of Aquarius means that we are less likely to take things personally.  There can be an aloofness to Venus in Aquarius, which doesn’t always feel good within some relationships.  However, we can be much more objective about our interactions with others and about our finances when Venus is in Aquarius.  We do feel a strong need to be independent and make our own decisions.  Anyone or anything that demands we be compliant or do something against our inner desires will feel uncomfortable.

Overall, this Virgo Full Moon is asking us to creatively come up with solutions to practical problems that hinder us from being of service (Virgo).  We need to think about how we can realistically help others in practical ways, and then we are being encouraged to approach these situations with Virgo-like humility.  In order to do this, we may need to overcome our tendency toward self-criticism and, instead, use self-love and compassion to move us past our blocks.  This combination of this powerful Full Moon and Uranus being located in the last degree of Aries continues the cosmic imperative that we finish up the old and move forward into important changes, both personally and as a species.  We need to be brave pioneers on an entirely new path.  Remember, chaos often precedes change, and change is usually not easy for most of us.  But change often leads us out of something that has become stagnant and no longer serves us.  If we can maintain this “big picture” perspective and trust the process, then we may be better able to put one foot in front of the other and reach our destination.  And even if that end result is still a bit foggy, we still need to keep moving forward.
