In the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 11:56 a.m. on Saturday, April 18. This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 29° of Aries. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 29° of Aries in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.
As is true with all New Moons, this one provides us with opportunities for new emotional starts and a chance to set new intentions within the sign involved. A New Moon in Aries, though, is a bit special. It’s the first sign of the zodiac, and is, therefore, believed to be the beginning of a new cycle in our lives. Aries energy is about initiation, energy, action, eagerness, and forward momentum. It is important to have as few preconceived ideas as possible so our minds and hearts are open to new possibilities. We need to trust our instincts about what is worth pursuing (or not pursuing), but we also need to recognize that mistakes are simply “course corrections” from which we often learn important lessons that enhance our journey.
However, unlike most Aries New Moons, this one occurs just hours before the Moon moves into Taurus, and then the Sun follows suit just two days later on Monday, April 20. After the pumped up energy of Aries, some of us may feel like the energy of Taurus puts a damper on our “energy party” or causes us to feel more resistant to change. But the presence of Taurus is a gift. Often the Aries energy causes us to start things but not finish them. The Taurean energy will slow us down, ground us, and stabilize any great ideas that came to us during the time of the Aries New Moon. And when the Sun moves into Taurus, this will help us reduce stress levels, encourage us to enjoy the physical aspects of life, and identify if any of our actions might be impulsive and are thereby hindering us from taking more practical steps to bring ideas into reality. Our challenge is not to stop the flow of change in our lives, but, instead, to use the Taurean energy to help make those changes viable.
The day before the New Moon (Friday, April 17), a square (90°) between Mars and Jupiter will provide us with energy and confidence. Although we do need to be careful not to overestimate our capabilities or overlook important details, we likely will feel ready to constructively move forward in one or more areas of our life.
A sweet sextile (60°) between Mercury and Neptune occurs the day after the New Moon (Sunday, April 19). This will usher in kind words and creative ideas that will help us see our plans with new eyes. Our intuition will be at an all-time high today, and this is a good day to pursue any creative endeavors. However, a square (90°) between Venus and Neptune that same day could cause some confusion or unclear intentions in our relationships or finances. Avoid making any commitments or large purchases. If we can work with this aspect in a positive way, it can be a time when we can do some “forgiveness work,” as long as we don’t allow ourselves to go down the slippery slope of self-pity or feeling abandoned, which can also happen with the planetary pairing.
A square (90°) between Mercury and Jupiter on Monday, April 20, could cause us to feel like we are being given too much information and are unable to process it all. Overlooking important details is definitely possible today, and we need to be careful not to over-promise or needlessly debate with others over different views of reality. A dose of humor and the ability to not take ourselves too seriously will help immensely.
Then on Wednesday, April 22, a conjunction (0°) between Mercury and Mars will again make many of us feel like ideas are pouring into our brain! With this aspect, productive conversations are possible, as are new levels of efficiency. Mars is in Taurus, which requires us to slow down and focus on quality and not quantity. Our minds (Mercury) will be aligned with this focus, and we will want to peacefully find ways to bring our ideas onto the physical plane. We could feel mentally and physically ready to take some brave new steps forward on our path, and say “Yes” or “No” to things that we’ve been thinking about for some time. Given Jupiter recently squared Mercury, we do need to avoid using this energy to become opinionated or judgmental (Jupiter) in our words (Mercury) or bullish with our actions (Mars in Taurus). Luckily, Pluto trines (120°) both Mercury and Mars. This free-flowing, positive energy will help us use our power to see the truth, become hyper-efficient, and support us in staying “on target” with our discussions and actions. And if it’s time to eliminate certain people, plans, habits, or beliefs from our lives, this is a good time to do it. Our goal now is to set priorities and take on one task at a time. Late in the day, a delightful sextile (60°) between Venus and Jupiter will open our hearts and add a dose of pleasure and happiness to our relationships. It’s also a very positive aspect for our finances.
Sunday, April 26, is a playful day. A sextile (60°) between Venus and Uranus will make us more open than usual to new and even unusual forms of entertainment and fun. The day is best approached with an experiential attitude and a mood of joyful exploration. Social events and meetings will often have an “out of the ordinary” feel to them.
Another sextile (60°) on Wednesday, April 29, will occur between the Sun and Neptune. The Sun shines its light on issues of spirituality, faith, and forgiveness. We will likely feel more compassionate, charitable, intuitive, and creative, which will influence us for the few days before and after the exact aspect. This is a great time to start any self-improvement efforts. But as with any sextile, we need to make the conscious decision to access this energy or it is wasted.
On Thursday, April 30, Mercury leaves the heavier energy of Taurus and moves into its home sign of Gemini. Mercury will be staying in this sign for a longer than usual time period due to an upcoming retrograde period, which begins on May 19 and ends on June 10. This means that Mercury will remain in Gemini for over 2 months (until July 9) instead of the usual 3-week stay in a sign. Mercury is a “happy camper” in Gemini. Many of us will feel like information is flowing freely and our minds are working more effectively. Feeling mentally distracted is possible, but an influx of fresh ideas is likely and communication on all levels is enhanced. We are mentally curious; however Gemini is interested in gathering a lot of information but not going too deeply into that information.
Overall, this New Moon in Aries is about new starts and great new ideas. With so much Taurean energy moving in right after the Aries New Moon, we will find ourselves slowing down and integrating all these changes that have been rushing through our lives during the last few months. Any ideas worth keeping will now find a firm foothold, and we are being given the determination that we need to move forward in one or more areas of our lives (and the courage to move away from those that we have outgrown). And with Gemini moving into its home sign of Gemini on April 30, this is a good time to use our minds to come up with solutions to any problems that we might encounter.
In closing, it is important to mention that April 20 is believed by many astrologers to be the beginning of a “shift in wind.” For many people, the last few years have felt like a rollercoaster ride of intense energy and swirling changes, which started with the first Uranus-Pluto square over two years ago. Things are finally going to start slowing down. So please don’t give up because clarity is very likely just around the corner. We may begin to feel like we are finally reaping the benefits of all our hard work. And the new Taurean energy coming into our lives during the next few weeks will support all of us as we stop and smell the roses that we have planted with our bare hands (and many of us have the scratches from the thorns to prove it). There may still be bumps in the road, but we can now more clearly see how these are “rerouting opportunities” that will take us to places of greater happiness, health, joy, and enlightenment. Remember, “Eventually all the pieces fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moment, and know that everything happens for a reason.” (John Edward)
