In the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 7:05 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16. This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 26° of Gemini. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 26° of Gemini in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.
New Moons provide us with a chance to set new intentions and make emotional shifts in the sign in which it occurs. This New Moon happens in the air sign of Gemini, which focuses on thinking, learning, and communicating. We may find ourselves thinking about things in new ways or exploring a new topic. It’s a good time to collect information, do research, and talk with people who are “in the know.” Clearing out the clutter in our lives (e.g., physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually) will make room for new people, ideas, and things. It will also free up energy that can be devoted to any new projects, particularly those that were started during the time of the last New Moon in Taurus.
The asteroid Chiron is squaring (90°) both this New Moon and Mars. Chiron is the wounded healer, so we are being urged to heal our view of power (Mars), our emotions (Moon), and how we shine in the world (Sun). For example, we may be thinking about how we are perceived by others and whether we are comfortable with that image (or not).
Given Mars, the planet of action, is very closely conjunct (0°) this New Moon, we will likely have copious amounts of energy available to heal our wounds and accomplish any new starts. However, the lower expression of Mars is important to keep in mind, including being aggressive or acting impulsively. We need to “watch our words” and make sure that we take at least a little time to evaluate any important decisions.
This New Moon is happening soon after Mercury went direct on Thursday, June 11. A special clarity often follows Mercury turning direct; and given all the planets current in mentally-focused Gemini (i.e., Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars), we can use this intellectual focus to ground any new ideas that come up around the time of this New Moon. But it also leaves many of us feeling ready to “speak our mind”; so again, it is important to think through any major conversations so we are sure we are seeing both sides and respecting the needs of all involved.
Also at the time of this New Moon, Jupiter is trining (120°) Uranus. This is the final in a series of three trines between these powerful planets, and we will feel its influence for about 10 more days (the aspect is exact on Monday, June 22). The power and courage provided by Mars (see above) will embolden us to act independently and be inventive. We may be willing to take a huge leap of faith at this time and major breakthroughs are possible. Given Uranus is involved, unexpected events may be the catalyst for these changes. The presence of Jupiter could make us feel unstoppable, so make sure any leaps are onto solid ground and not into thin air.
If we aren’t feeling ready for these changes, then it may be due to retrograde Saturn’s recent return to the sign of Scorpio, which was discussed in the last Full Moon Update. If we haven’t finished up the deep, inner healing work of Saturn in Scorpio, then we are being given another “opportunity” (oh joy, oh bliss!). We may have to confront some inner fears and unconscious patterns that we have been avoiding in order to be ready to move forward once Saturn returns to the adventurous sign of Sagittarius on September 17. This will likely be a very passionate, emotionally intense process. Any inner work will likely revolve around Scorpio’s major themes of intimacy, core wounds that need healing, and the use of power (versus force). As was also discussed in the last Full Moon Update, Saturn is still squaring (90°) Neptune, which will help us see clearly through any misty areas of our lives and be responsible in our choices and actions. We may also need to pull on our big girl panties and our big boy panties in order to face any addictions, obsessions, and/or victim beliefs.
The Summer Solstice occurs on Sunday, June 21, which heralds in Summer in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter in the Southern Hemisphere. It happens when the Sun moves into the sign of Cancer. After the outgoing, social energy of Gemini, the Sun’s move into Cancer often represents a month in which our attention turns inward. We may feel more vulnerable than usual and crave security; therefore, we may feel more self-protective. Everything associated with our family and home (in whatever way we define them) will be our focus. Emotional ups and down may be a bit more frequent during this time.
On Tuesday, June 23, Mercury will square (90°) Neptune. Our thoughts and communication could be unclear today, and we may be more inclined to imagine what could be rather than focus on what is. This is fine unless you need to pay attention to details or focus on facts. If possible, avoid any major decisions until at least tomorrow.
Wednesday, June 24, sees the asteroid Chiron turning retrograde in Pisces, and it won’t turn direct again until November. The primary focus of Chiron is teaching us that our wounds are not our weakness; instead, they provide us with our greatest strengths. Learning this lesson is often a lifelong process. When Chiron is retrograde, we may feel more easily hurt and more sensitive to energies around us. This is actually an advantage if we can use these experiences to heal inner core issues. It may not be pleasant, but it is an opportunity to flush out any hidden problems so they can be cleansed. It’s all about healing with Chiron, and as they say in psychology, the only way out is through. So the only way out of pain is to go through the pain. Avoiding it just postpones healing, and facing important inner issues will be easier to do during Chiron’s annual retrograde phase. However, given Chiron is in Pisces, there is a risk of falling into victim consciousness. Remember, we are powerful beings of Light, and we can use our inner wisdom to heal and find peace.
On the same day (Wednesday, June 24), Mars moves out of Gemini and enters Cancer, where it will remain until Sunday, August 9. Cancer is a cardinal energy, so the energy of Mars will motivate many of us to move our bodies and start new things in the areas associated with Cancer, such as family, home, and creating security in our lives. It is a time when powerful women (Mars in Cancer) may play an important role in our personal worlds and in the world around us. Cancer is known for being moody at times, so our actions may be dependent on our emotional state, swinging from enthusiasm to withdrawal or retreat. We also need to be careful not to be overly defensive or unconsciously aggressive while Mars moves through Cancer.
Then on Saturday, June 27, Venus will be conjunct (0°) Jupiter in Leo. Let the fun begin! When these two planets meet up every year, magic can happen. It is one of the best days of the year to be with people and to even have a party. It is also a time to look at what area of our life might provide us with more fulfillment. We feel generous, giving, optimistic, and benevolent toward others. Finances and relationships of all kinds are positively influenced.
Overall, this New Moon in Gemini is encouraging us to let go of any underlying patterns, beliefs, or ideas that are holding us back from moving forward in our lives. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Mars are all in the sign of Gemini, and Gemini is a sign associated with fun, social activities, and communication. We may feel inclined to engage in joyful activities now. But do take time the days before and after the New Moon to look at what areas of your life might be ready for a new start. But then use the powerful energies that follow the New Moon to take action, focus on our family/home, and do some deep inner healing that will propel us to our next level. And remember to keep your thoughts positive because, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right” (Henry Ford).
