In the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28. This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 8° of Gemini. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 8° of Gemini in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.
New Moons are times when we get to reset our intentions and goals in the areas associated with the sign and house involved. Gemini is about communication, thinking, learning, curiosity, playfulness, and optimism. Fresh new ideas are likely now, and you may find that you are provided with ample opportunities to be social, network, and have fun. You may also find new avenues for sharing your ideas, visions, and passions. All of this is great unless you are inundated with too many ideas or social opportunities. Becoming overwhelmed is possible, and learning how to set healthy boundaries (with others and with ourselves) is the lesson to be learned here. Additionally, be aware that Gemini is associated with seeing both sides of every issue. This can lead to confusion, especially if we need to make a choice, because Gemini’s energy wants to keep all its options open!
Unfortunately, confusion and illusion may be present because the New Moon is in a tight square (90°) to Neptune, the planet most associated with foggy thinking, fantasy, and dreams. Therefore, we may feel like all these new thoughts are floating on top of whipped cream. Yes, whipped cream can be delicious, but only time will tell which ideas and social contacts will actually turn out to be useful. However, the influence of Neptune means that our imagination, faith, and intuitive insights will be very strong around the time of this New Moon.
Earlier that same day (Wednesday, May 28), a sweet sextile (60°) between Mercury and Venus will promote pleasant conversations, and help reduce stress. This astrological aspect supports diplomacy, negotiations, business deals, publishing, romantic declarations, and joint ventures or partnerships. You may even find that you hear something that makes you very happy!
Then, later that same day (Wednesday, May 28), Venus moves out of fiery Aries and into its home sign of Taurus, where it will remain until June 24. This earthy sign helps solidify our thinking and will likely see the return of some common sense. And given that Mars is in a close trine (120°) to the New Moon, this may help us transform our ideas into action. When Venus is in Taurus, we may also desire satisfaction through simple pleasures that involve nature and sensual activities, such as receiving a massage or cuddling with our loved ones on the couch (including our animals). We may also want to use our bodies to influence our physical worlds to create more beauty. The only warning when Venus is in Taurus is to avoid being overly possessive or resisting new forms of pleasure.
And the next day (Thursday, May 29), Mercury moves out of Gemini and into watery Cancer. Due to its upcoming retrograde period, this means that Mercury will be moving in and out of Gemini and Cancer through August 1. When Mercury is in Cancer, this helps us link up our thoughts (Mercury) with our emotions (Cancer). Consequently, our thinking becomes more subjective now, which can result in some loss of objectivity. However, intimate relationships will benefit from the more gentle and tender approach in conversations. Our focus now becomes more personal than universal.
This New Moon in Gemini is occurring during a very special astrological formation called a grand trine. The planets Jupiter and Saturn and the asteroid Chiron are all 120° away from each other, and all are in water signs (i.e., Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, respectively). Grand trines are associated with a very easy flow of energy, and this will be influencing us all the way through mid-June. When the grand trine occurs in water signs, it is our emotional lives that will be impacted in a positive way. We will likely see a deepening of our healing, intimacy, and/or intuition. This wonderful influence is well-timed given the intensity of the cardinal grand cross that impacted us for the first part of 2014. Now is a time when we may be able to resolve some of the challenges that came up during that period.
On Saturday, May 31, an exact trine (120°) between the Sun and Mars will likely bring a burst of energy and vitality! After turning direct on May 19, Mars has been gearing up to implement some changes in our lives, and the Sun will add a lot of fuel to that fire. You will feel a natural sense of self-confidence and enthusiasm. This is a good time to take the initiative and take long-thought-about actions, partly because your decision-making skills will be effective now. You may also find that you feel more courageous, are more willing to be spontaneous, and have an increased interest in all things physical.
An awkward 150° aspect (quincunx) between the Sun and Pluto on Tuesday, June 3, will influence us for a few days before and after the actual event. It may result in the need to make one or more difficult choices between who we think we are (Sun) and what will lead to our greatest transformation (Pluto). You may find that you feel forced to focus on issues that you usually prefer to ignore. We can be rewarded with respect and a sense of accomplishment if we are able to turn talk into action, concentrate our attention on a single task, and commit to hard work. It is also helpful now to simplify our lives and be patient while we are changing and growing in miraculous ways.
The next day (Wednesday, June 4), a sextile (60°) between Venus and Neptune will increase compassion. Being gentle with yourself and others will be an effective use of this astrological aspect. We may be more imaginative and creative today, and it is possible that we will find unexpected solutions to practical problems. Little pleasures will remind us all of the joy of life (joie de vivre). In our social relationships, we may feel like this is a “magical” time, and we will all find it easier to appreciate those we love. Finally, you should also watch for signs and synchronicities involving your finances.
The Sun in Gemini is usually a time of new ideas and new starts, and the Sun remains in Gemini through Thursday, June 12. However, it is probably best to focus on implementing those new ideas before Mercury begins its second retrograde period of 2014, which starts on Saturday, June 7 and continues until Tuesday, July 1. As with all Mercury retrograde periods, this is a time when our attention is turned inward, and many of the “re” words become important (e.g., reevaluate, revise, reform, review). It’s important now to make sure to double and triple check important documents in order to avoid miscommunication, travel snafus, and/or legal problems. But if we are careful, this is a good time to reconnect with people from the past, review and streamline systems, and reassess (or reestablish) healthy habits.
Then on Monday, June 9, Neptune begins its annual 5-month retrograde period. Because Neptune moves very slowly, this retrograde influence is very subtle. We may find that we are more sensitive than usual, and our intuitive abilities may be heightened. It will be important now to find those special people who we can talk to about our feelings, and trust that “inner voice,” particularly when it’s urging us to consider making an important change in our life. We may need to “get real” with ourselves during this 5-month period. If we avoid doing so, this could lead to more problems once Neptune goes direct again in mid-November. Where Neptune direct allows us to float in a sea of denial at times, Neptune retrograde forces us to take any blinders off. It is time to question our dreams and make sure they pass a “reality test.”
This New Moon in Gemini is complicated. Usually, this is a time of renewal and when we experience a “breath of fresh air.” A plethora of information is common, as are many new social connections. And although that may be true now, this New Moon in Gemini is being heavily influenced by a series of aspects and planets changing signs that are muting its usual high energy and optimism. We need to be aware that our thinking may be a bit clouded around the time of the New Moon, and only time will show us which ideas and social contacts are worth pursuing and which were just pipe dreams or fantasies. Things will become clearer as we move away from the New Moon and enter June. Also, don’t forget that throughout this time, we are being encouraged to take advantage of the healing influence provided by the water grand trine that will be influencing us between now and mid-June. So remember that, “The body heals with play, the mind heals with laughter, and the spirit heals with joy” (Proverb).
